You've got a fantastic show full of truly gifted, funny, and visionary improvisers, yet there's often more people onstage than in your audience. Why? Because you're not marketing your show properly - if at all.

In this 2 part workshop, improviser and promo manager Kevin McShane shares his tips, tactics, and outspoken opinions on how to effectively market your improv show to the general public. Mixing lecture, Q&A, and real world case studies, Kevin will help you put more butts in the seats and finally start drawing the audiences you deserve.

NOTE: This is a lecture/discussion workshop. No scenework.

Curriculum includes:

  • Lecture
    • The 5 Steps in Promoting Your Show (Step 1: Don't Suck)
    • The Importance of Naming (and Not Being Clever)
    • Branding for Improv Groups (Key Art, Group Photo, Logo Design, etc.)
    • Presskits (and Why You Need One)
    • Courting Old Media (or Whoring Yourself for Reviews)
    • Websites (and Why You Need One)
    • Permission Marketing and Social Media (Facebook, MySpace, etc.)
    • Guerilla Tactics (or Whatever Works)
  • Q&A
  • Group Discussion
    • An interactive development session where we discuss your show
Every improviser in the country should take this workshop. If you have ever wanted to know how to reach and inform the general public in your market about improv, talk to Kevin McShane.

McShane's workshop was an eye-opener. Everything he had to say was valuable, from confirming things I already suspected about how to use social media effectively, to making what can be the most daunting aspect of performing - promoting your show - accessible. He gives you a starting point, a reboot point, and a sensible plan to how to market your team.

This was absolutely the best workshop i have ever taken. I wish that everyone in my group had taken this. It laid out everything that needs to be done and gave me the confidence that it CAN be done.
